The Los Angeles Passport Agency will be holding a Passport Day on Saturday, April 9 from 7:30am to 11:30am. No appointments are necessary, so walk-ins are welcome! Although they normally only accept expedited applications at their counter, on Passport Day they will be accepting both routine and expedited applications. Please note that their standard fees, such as the passport fees and expedite fee (if a customer opts for expedited service on that day) still apply on Passport Day.

Since it’s on a Saturday, it’s a great opportunity for families to apply for their kids without having to take their children out of school or find one of the small number of Passport Acceptance Facilities that offer Saturday hours. It’s important to keep in mind that minors must appear in person, and for minors under 16 they require consent of both parents, or certified evidence that one parent has sole legal custody: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/under-16.html

Also, even if a minor has had a passport before and it is being submitted as the minor’s citizenship evidence, they still require the birth certificate be submitted as well as the proof of relationship between the minor and the parents.

For minors 16-17, you’ll find more information here: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/16-and-17.html

Customers can find more information about passport application requirements (including downloadable applications) here: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html

Standard processing times, as noted on Department of State website, apply to applications accepted on Passport Day.

We’ve also attached an event flyer and a fee chart. Fees can be paid by credit card, check, money order or exact cash.

To help things move more quickly that day, it’s advisable that you download and print out applications in advance, and bring passport photos. Just in case, the photo studio next door is expected to be open that day, if customers don’t bring photos or bring unacceptable photos.

Current passport holders might benefit from renewing their passports early, because many foreign countries now require that US citizens traveling to those countries have a passport that will be valid for at least six months beyond the time of their visit: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/country.html

The Los Angeles Passport Agency anticipates that they will likely have additional Passport Days during 2016, but presently do not have those scheduled as yet.

If customers have any questions, they can either email the Los Angeles Passport Agency at LAPassportOutreach@state.gov or call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
