This Thursday marked the launch of the LAPD Devonshire Division’s Volunteer Community Patrol. This program is the first of its kind in the City of Los Angeles.

The 15 member volunteer team will patrol neighborhoods and report suspicious activity directly to LAPD via police radios. They patrol Monday through Friday during daylight hours. As the program expands, they hope to expand the scope of the volunteer patrol to include night shifts, traffic control, and brush fire monitoring.

The Volunteer Community Patrol will provide a visual presence and a force multiplier for the LAPD allowing Devonshire Division to allocate extra resources throughout the community as needed and deter criminals from targeting our neighborhoods.

The Devonshire Division has had success with other volunteer programs like the Volunteer Surveillance Team, California Emergency Mobile Patrol (CEMP), Civilian Bike Patrol, and SOLID. That success made Devonshire a logical first choice for this pilot program. If effective, this program will be expanded Citywide to all LAPD divisions.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this program possible through their selfless service to our community.
