I think this was a Great Documentary showing all sides of the discussion. I found this website while trying to find out where to go to check out the food truck evenings. (my friend told me I had to check it out) So you’re getting Van Nuys residents who want to come spend money in your area. The only thing I think you seem to need to deal with – sooner than later – is finding a way for the food truck vendors to help pay the staff that are cleaning the area after it ends each night. I hope my future dollars I spend there will go towards that, too. (especially that one family!) Good luck!

An accident is waiting to happen!
I do not understand how the city condones these food trucks.
I recently moved here and noticed these trucks a short time ago and the numbers keep growing and growing.
Not only can I not park to access a local vendor, I’ve seen close calls from people going between trucks and traffic nightmares because these trucks are trying to cram in to a parking spot.
What are you going to do? What for someone to get hit by a car a worse yet get killed.
It always takes a death for a city to realize there is something wrong.
Wake up!

The absolute best thing to happen to “old” granada village in years,,,,how many nail salons, foot massage studios ,gyms and karate studios can one street have, not to mention all the signs that are littered on the street that are not even in english…and this is what people complain about??? Yes they can do better to accomodate the people and traffic but I have never seen this communiy come together like this,,i love it and support this truck rally whole heartley,im pround to have this in “my” town and plan to visit the trucks on both wens. and fridays..
Valley Lynn says:
The documentary has attracted out of town visitors to come experience this unique phenomenon. One friend from Philadelphia came out and took a photo of the scene and a number of trucks. He as very impressed by the variety of cuisine and the “community” feeling of the night. He’s hoping that something similar can happen out in Philly (weather permitting).
After seeing how political forces can absolutely squash small business efforts, I can only hope we don’t let that same bureaucratic mentality ruin what could be a new fusion of mobile and stationary businesses that create a family friendly destination.
Having said that, there is something to think about taking those 3 blocks of Chatsworth and blocking them to vehicle traffic on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and instituting a vendor fee (instead of the parking ticket fee) for food trucks and other vendors. Businesses located along those 3 blocks could be given a vending table spot at no charge which they can use to set up their own wares, or sell to another business or donate to a non-profit organization.
This would eliminate the jay-walking and traffic near misses, the “brick and mortar” businesses can compete on a level playing field, it would generate an ENORMOUS amount of food traffic in that commercial section as well as a tidy amount of fee income which could be reinvested in the local community as well as fund trash clean up efforts and promote recycling bins which would generate more revenue from the CRV’s on the cans and bottles.
Elizabeth says:
It has caused a lot of complaints in the residentical areas which closed to the food trucks main location. People left trash and garbage on the way to their car which they parked in the residential areas. Every Wednesday and Friday nights are nightmare for the residents in the areas. Not only that you smell the oily and smoky air which came from the food truck, but also increasing added noise from the street performances( loud bands). It might bring peole who live far away entertainment but it is horrible to experience the pleasant neighborhood raptly became a night market. We are also concern that food truck attracts people from variety of neighborhood people which might bring more crime. We deeply hope that city of Granada hills will help residents to bright back the quality life which completely damaged by the appeared food truck 6 months ago. Food truck should gather in the parking lots or shopping business districts which away from the residential areas.

Good documentary showing many aspects, the pros and cons. Re Elizabeth’s comments above, it’s too bad there weren’t some interviews with residential neighbors. I’m sure there are ways for each of us personally to be part of a positive team community to improve this truck-night phenomenon. Such as: 1. When I attend Food Truck night I’ll make an effort to look for and pick up any trash on my way back to the car. 2. On Weds I have dinners out with someone who doesn’t like food trucks; I could take him to the nearby restaurants that are losing business on Weds nights. – – Glad I watched this video. P.S. Wien Truck sighting at 9:45! Woohoo!
Mick Osborne says:
Small suggestion for some of the trash problem only. Rule. Where ever a Truck is parked in front of a business. It then becomes the trucks responsibility for trash left any where from driver side of street vendors to the business door of establishments they are parked in front of. Help out the owner of the brick and mortar. You are taking HIS customers parking space. But has traffic of the food truck increased your business ? May be a little give and take here.
